Jerry Ntimbane, CEO

Position: Chief Executive Officer

About: For Jerry Ntimbane, the centre’s founder and CEO, and native of Alexandra, these tools and values are of paramount importance. Disabled at the age of 16 by polio, he went from being an independent young man with a good job as a golf caddy to having no idea how he was going to wash and dress without someone’s help, let alone support himself financially. It was only after eleven operations and several years of feeling despondent that he took matters into his own hands. “I found myself a wheelchair so I could be mobile,” explains Jerry. “And I began to reach out to organisations for help”. He came across a support group for the disabled in Soweto. Since there was no similar organisation to help the disabled in Alex, they suggested he start a similar group in that community, using their model for guidance. Looking for a challenge, Jerry jumped at the opportunity, and in 1998, the ADM came into fruition
