About Us

Alexandra is situated 18km in the North East of Johannesburg and it’s a neighboring suburb affluent suburb like Sandton, Bramley, Kew and Lombardy.

It is bombarded by the black population as per demarcation was designed to accommodate about  1,500 000 people due to people coming from homelands and immigrants in search of employment opportunities the total number inhabitants is near to 400, 000 people and increasing every day. The average room occupancy is four (4) to six (6) per room.

Of the township in the Johannesburg area, including Soweto and Tembisa, Alexandra is the poorest both economically and because of the overcrowding and poor infrastructure. Social life is to non-existence.

Even through Alexandra is wholly surrounded by the industrial areas on the three sides, the rates of unemployment are very high and that culminates the high rate of the crime and usage of drugs in the area. Per statistic performed by the local authority in 1996, it was found that+250 000 are formally employed i. e only 55% are employed. Most industrial in the area are manufactured and assembling industries majorities of the residents are employed as a labour as most of these companies are labour intensive.

Alexander represents one of the extreme of urban difficulties in delivering comprehensive, quality health care and social services. In those more than trying times the Alexandra Disability Movement works to promote the integration of the disabled people into society through approximately effective development programmers.

Disability issues were used in the struggled for the right of the disabled people specifically, but also in the broad struggle for the for the right in which particularly in the right to equal opportunities stood in the center.
